Police in Mangochi District have arrested four men on suspicion that they robbed a Rwandan businessman at his house at St. John’s DMI University area.
The suspects have been identified as Gift Chidule(convict), 36, Felix Divason Banda, 45, Luka Mtambalika, 34 and Kelvin Chingalu, 39.
The key suspect Gift Chidule who is a habitual criminal is answering a number of robbery cases and already appeared before court on August 11, 2022 where he was convicted and sentenced to 13-years for breaking into Dalitso Cottage on the night of August 1, 2022 and went away with a plasma TV.
It is reported that Chidule and his accomplices during the month of June this year, armed with panga knives, axes, and screwdrivers broke into the said businessman’s house. They demanded him to surrender all cash made from that day’s sells while threatening to kill him.
The victim surrendered a sum of K240,000 cash. However the assailants forced him to make a transaction of K108,000 he had in his phone to a number which beared Chidule’s name.
The suspects also went away with two cellphones, Acer laptop, assorted beers and groceries.
The matter was reported at Mangochi Police Station who initiated investigations and the detectives arrested Chidule on August 10, 2022 through a call log who led them to Mulanje District where the other three were apprehended.
The detectives have also recovered three plasma Tv’s, home theater and carpet which were stolen by the key suspect on July 25, 2022 at Osman Cottage in the district.
They will appear before court to answer charges of robbery which is contrary to section 301 of the Penal Code after the completion of paperwork.
Chidule, Banda and Chingalu hail from Mulanje while Mtambalika hails from Thyolo District.
