3 breakers nabbed, Police recover stolen items

Police in Mangochi District have arrested three men for allegedly breaking into Tina Saidi’s house at Saiti Kadzuwa Village within the township on February 18, 2023. Police have also recovered stolen items worth K2.4 Million.

The suspects have been identified as Mike Masiyano, 28, from Macheso Village, Traditional Authority Kapoloma in Machinga, Palinje, 32, Chomba Village, Traditional Authority Mponda and Mussa Ayilu, 31, M’balula Village, Traditional Authority Chowe in Mangochi District.

According to police findings, the third suspect stays in the same compound with the victim. Earlier on that day, the victim went to nurse her daughter who is admitted at Mangochi District Hospital.

It is alleged that, the third suspect connived with his friends and broke into the neighbour’s house and went away with assorted items including two plasma TVs, four blankets, radio and others.

Before the victim reported the incident to police, the night patrol team intercepted the suspects while breaking away with some of the stolen items following a tip from members of the community.

They also led the team to their houses where stolen items were recovered including a motorcycle.

The following morning, the victim reported the matter to Police after she discovered that her house was broken into where it was established that the items she was mentioning were exactly what police had recovered from the suspects.

Meanwhile, the trio who are connected to a series of robbery and house breaking in the district have admitted to have stolen the items from the neighbour who have also positively identified her properties.

They will appear before court after completion of paperwork.
