FOUR PEOPLE YIELD 155 YEARS FOR MURDERING A PERSON WITH ALBINISM

The High Court sitting in Mangochi has sentenced three people to 155 years and two months in prison for murdering, Saidi Daitoni, 23, person with albinism, in January 2021.

The four are James Khang’a 71, Sumaili Nikisi 45 and Gayesi Kapote 44.

Judge Mzondi Mvula, who priseded over the case, says the three deserved a stiffer punishment to deter the would be offenders.

The three were charged on 9th May this year with counts of murder, extracting body tissues and trafficking in persons; attracting 68 years and 6 months, 48 years and 6 months and 38 years and 6 years respectively.

The sentences will run concurrently; meaning the three will stay in prison for 68 and 6 months.

Saidi Daitoni who hailed from Kadewere Village, Traditional Authority Chowe in Mangochi was murdered on 27 January 2021.
