In a quest to eliminate criminality in Mzuzu, on 24 August 2023, Police in Mzuzu arrested 22 people suspected to have committed various criminal and statutory offences.
According to Mzuzu Police Station Deputy Spokesperson Constable Mercy Chitonde the arrests came when police were conducting an intelligence driven special operation aimed at keeping Mzuzu a crime free zone.
Thirteen (13) of the suspects have been arrested for selling liquor without permit, four (4) for being found in possession of petroleum products without permit, and five (5) others for idle and disorderly.
Chitonde has told#101Power Malawi that the suspects include Luka Mushali 29, Nickson Gama 43, and 20 others.
Following the operation, the officers managed to seize liquor, 40 litres of petrol, and 15 litres of diesel.
The suspects are expected to appear before court soon to answer applicable charges.
