President Chakwera says DoDMA is quick to take action on any misuse of resources since he made changes in its leadership and required them to report directly to his office.

Chakwera said this earlier on Monday after donating a K120 million cheque to the department.

“In the past, DoDMA was often used for fraud but this is the story of the past since I made changes to the department,” Chakwera said.

According to him, DoDMA has shown an excellent performance during the Cyclone Freddy period as he thanked everyone in the private sector who donated directly to DoDMA during the disaster, stating that their demonstration of confidence in government institutions is critical for disaster management sustainability in the country.

The Malawi leader said the donation made by him is part of his contribution towards Operation Tigwirane Manja, an initiative championed by himself to bring relief to people affected by cyclone Freddy.

“The money is part of what we realized last October during the inaugural charity golf tournament under the Presidential Charity Initiative,” Chakwera emphasized.

He, then thanked those that have supported his initiative and those that contribute to help the affected communities through other channels.

Apart from the K120 million cheque, Chakwera has also donated 20 bales of blankets, which his Charity recieved from the SAVENDA Group of Companies.

Cyclone Freddy has affected 2.5 million people reaching this far, with 676 dead and 537 missing.
