Police at Namphungo in Mulanje District have arrested Barnet Magombo, of Chawawa Village, Traditional Authority Juma in Mulanje District for allegedly defiling a 14-year-old girl who is also deaf and dump.
Mulanje Police Station Public Relations Officer, Sergeant Innocent Moses has confirmed of the arrest indicating that the incident occurred on May 30th, 2023 at Chatikana Village, Traditional Authority Juma around 09:00 hours.
“It is reported that on May 30th, 2023 around morning hours, the mother to the victim was coming from her garden and whilst on her way back, she met her friend who informed her that she saw her daughter with Barnet Magombo while having sexual intercourse,” Sergeant Moses indicated.
He added that upon hearing the news, the mother went and informed her relatives about the incident having knowing that her daughter can not say anything as she is deaf and dump.
“Thereafter, the matter was reported to Police officers who referred the victim to Namphungo Heath Center Unit for medical examination where results confirmed that the child was really defiled,” he revealed.
Sergeant Moses then told this publication that Police launched a manhunt leading to the arrest of the suspect and he has been charged with defilement and will appear in court soon to answer the charge.
