DELAYED TRANSFORMER REPAIRS: RESIDENTS OF NTCHISI DISTRICT EXPRESS FRUSTRATION WITH ESCOM

Residents of Bumphula, Chasolo, and Chinga’mba, situated under Senior Chief Chilooko in Ntchisi District, have raised concerns over the prolonged delay by the Electricity Supply Corporation of Malawi (ESCOM) in repairing three faulty transformers in their localities.

John Kapangama, a resident of Bumphula Village, expressed his frustration, stating that the transformers developed faults in December 2021, severely impacting their ability to conduct businesses reliant on electricity. Despite their repeated attempts to engage with authorities on the matter, their appeals have yielded no positive outcome.Similar sentiments were echoed by Moses Gwaza and Joseph Phiri from Chasolo and Chinga’mba villages, respectively, highlighting the adverse effects of the transformer malfunctions on their daily lives.

ESCOM’s Public Relations Officer, Kitty Chingota, acknowledged the situation, attributing the delay to the pending arrival of new transformers that the utility company had ordered from international sources. Chingota revealed that there are approximately 400 non-operational transformers across the country due to faults.Avant Publications ✍️ 🇲🇼
