The Cotton Council of Malawi has announced the opening of the cotton market season effective from 16th April and will run for 90 days.
Speaking at a media briefing in Lilongwe on Friday, Chief Executive Officer Cosmas Lwanda said the minimum price for cotton seed for 2021 marketing season is K320/kg.
Lwanda said the price has been arrived at through a rigorous consultative process with industry stakeholders taking into account the cost of production and prevailing international market prices.
However, Lwanda was quick to warn unscrupulous traders that stiffer punishment awaits them.
He further added that the council will ensure that cotton farmers are selling the crop at a set price.
