Mchinji – In a joint operation, Mchinji Immigration and Police officials apprehended 25 Ethiopian nationals at Waliranji Trading Centre on suspicion of human trafficking. The individuals, aged between 18 and 25, were en route to Mchinji Boma when they were intercepted.
According to Mchinji Immigration spokesperson Madalitso Banda, the interception occurred when the suspects were transported from Dowa turn-off through Lilongwe rural, ultimately arriving at Waliranji.
“The intercepted Ethiopians are currently detained at Mchinji Police Station as further investigations continue,” Banda said.
Two key suspects, the driver, and his accomplice, are currently in police custody at Mchinji One Stop Border Post. The Immigration Office is gathering additional information to uncover the extent and organization of the alleged trafficking operation.
