The Malawi Bureau of Standards (MBS) has closed several Sana shops in Blantyre, Lilongwe, and Mzuzu due to poor hygiene and the sale of expired products.
Following inspections conducted earlier today, MBS officials identified significant violations at multiple Sana Cash and Carry outlets.
In Blantyre, the Sana branch in the city center was closed for selling expired products and failing to maintain hygienic practices. Another branch in Limbe was shut down due to unsanitary toilet facilities.
In Lilongwe, three Sana shops—located in the City Center, Area 47, and Area 4—were also ordered to close after inspectors discovered similar issues.

In Mzuzu, the Katoto Sana Super Store faced closure for failing to meet hygiene standards.
MBS Communications Officer Wazamazama Katatu stated that the closures were due to non-compliance with hygiene regulations. “The shops will only be reopened once the hygiene concerns have been addressed,” Katatu explained.
The bureau has urged consumers to report any non-compliant products or businesses to the MBS.
