Police in Rumphi have arrested Penjani Gondwe, 28, for allegedly trafficking in four Burundian nationals.

The alleged trafficked have been identified as James Jack, 18, Moses Maliro, 26, Elicky Wilia, 17 and Alex Emmanuel, 18.

It is reported that Gondwe stopped a certain minibus which was going to Mzuzu after Chitimba roadblock. He then told the driver that he was going to Mzuzu together with the named four.

Upon reaching at Chiweta Road block, the minibus was stopped and searched. During a search, the said four men had problems to communicate with officers in venecular language which raised a suspicion of being foreigners. More probe led to the arrest of Gondwe and the said four.

Gondwe and the four will appear in court soon to answer charges of trafficking in person and illegal entry into Malawi respectively.

Gondwe comes from Mwandenga Village under Traditional Authority Mwakawoko in Karonga district.
