Kenyan health workers waiting to receive a dose of the Oxford/AstraZeneca vaccine, part of the COVAX mechanism by GAVI (The Vaccine Alliance), to fight against COVID-19 at the Kenyatta National Hospital in Nairobi, Kenya, Friday, March 5.

Kenya received 1.02 million doses of the Oxford/AstraZeneca vaccine on March 3, 2021, part of the 24 million doses the country is expected to import in the next couple of months and has started dispersing the vaccines to stations around the country where health care workers, teachers and those with compromised immunity will start receiving vaccinations.

Kenya has recorded 107,000 cases and 1,870 deaths from the coronavirus.

The East African nations were among the first on the continent to implement strict lockdowns in a bid to hold back the pandemic in March 2020. All three countries still maintain an evening curfew.
