Steve Vinkhumbo, Chief Elderly Affairs Officer in the Ministry of Gender, Social Welfare and Community Development, expressed optimism that the Older Persons Act will help reduce cases of abuse against the elderly in Malawi.
He made these remarks in Zomba during the World Elder Abuse Awareness Day commemorations.
Andrew Kavala, Executive Director of the Malawi Network for Older Persons Organisation (MANEPO), called on stakeholders to intensify awareness campaigns aimed at promoting the rights of the elderly.
MANEPO brand ambassador, Christina Malaya, popularly known as Jetu, urged the youth to commit to caring for their grandparents.
