Dozens of Employees suffer Job loss at Multichoice Malawi

In a move that has sent shockwaves through the workforce, Multichoice Africa Holdings has taken an immediate decision to withdraw DStv services from Malawi. This decision jeopardise livelihoods of at least 90 workers at Multichoice Malawi.

The decision comes in the wake of a recent court injunction stemming from a case between Multichoice Malawi and the Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (MACRA). The legal disputes has culminated in Multichoice Africa Holdings causing discrepancies that has forced a pull of its DStv services from the country.

Local operations have been diligently managed by a team of 94 Malawian employees, working across key cities such as Blantyre, Lilongwe, and Mzuzu. This dedicated staff, supported by an extensive network of agents, retailers, and installers, has been instrumental in delivering top-notch services to subscribers in the region.

However, the abrupt withdrawal of DStv services threatens the stability of these local operations and the livelihoods of the employees involved. The potential loss of these jobs adds a further layer of concern to Malawi’s unemployment crisis, potentially contributing to a rise in the country’s unemployment rate.
