NEW ERA FOR NORTHERN REGION FOOTBALL LEAGUE

On June 25, 2024, the Northern Region Football Association received a major boost with a K20 million sponsorship deal, thanks to the efforts of twelve businesses from Mzuzu, collectively known as the Mzuzu 12 Sponsors.

The announcement of this significant sponsorship was made during a ceremony at Mzuzu Golf Club, marking a pivotal moment for the league’s development and support.

The Mzuzu 12 Sponsors, which include Bath and Tile Masters, Uncle Jose, Hope Investment, Ilala Crest, Gabriel Trading, Nyika Property Consultants, Kwithu Kitchen, Double M Motors, and Mzuzu Panel Beaters, came together to fill the gap left by Innobuild Private Limited’s withdrawal.

This move piqued public interest, leading many to inquire about the sponsors and their motivations for supporting football in the Northern Region.

Victor Gondwe from Nyika Property Consultants and Valuation, who played a key role in forming the group, highlighted their shared vision for the sport’s growth.

“We believe in the power of collaboration and the need to develop local talent. By uniting with other businesses, we aim to advance the sport and collaborate with the Football Association of Malawi (FAM) to enhance football in our region,” Gondwe explained.

Gondwe also noted that Nyika Property Consultants, a leading real estate firm headquartered in Mzuzu with nationwide operations, chose to invest in football because it aligns with their values.

Chairperson Chauka Mwasinga of the Regional Football Association praised the Mzuzu 12 for their crucial support and expressed optimism for the future.

Lameck Zetu Khonje, FAM’s second vice president, also commended the sponsorship and the unity demonstrated by the businesses. He expressed hope that the NRFA leadership would maintain the sponsorship and encourage further collaboration to ensure the league’s success.

“This partnership reflects the confidence these companies have in our football leadership. We are optimistic that the league will exceed expectations and attract even more support in the future,” Khonje stated.

The new sponsorship comes at a critical time for the Northern Region Football Association, which began the 2024 season with a K5 million sponsorship from Simama and Sons after Innobuild’s departure. The additional K20 million brings the total sponsorship to K25 million, enhancing the league’s competitiveness and appeal.
