The Malawi Schools Sports Association (MASSA) has raised concerns about insufficient funding from the government for youth games.
Speaking during the 2024 Youth Games finals at Mzuzu Stadium on Tuesday, August 20, 2024, MASSA President Blackson Malamula highlighted that the government allocated K223 million for this year’s fourth edition of the tournament, which he described as inadequate to fully support the event.
Malamula urged private companies and the corporate sector to step in and sponsor the tournament, emphasizing the need for additional financial backing.
Echoing Malamula’s sentiments, Malawi National Sports Council spokesperson Edgar Ntulumbwa stressed the importance of corporate involvement in ensuring the success of such events.
In the tournament’s results, South West Education Division (SWED) claimed victory in netball, defeating North West Education Division (NWED) by 42 to 37 baskets. Meanwhile, South East Education Division emerged as the football champions, securing a 1-0 win against South West Education Division.
