In preparation for the upcoming December 2023 Football Association of Malawi elections, Dr. Lameck Zetu Khonje, currently the Chairman of the Northern Region Football Association (NRFA), has announced his intention to run for the position of second vice president. Dr. Khonje’s track record at the regional level is marked by notable accomplishments. He has successfully overseen the growth of the Northern Region Football League, expanded the reach of football to Likoma through District leagues, and introduced Division One league matches on Likoma Island, facilitating mainland teams’ participation.

One of Dr. Khonje’s remarkable achievements as NRFA chairman is the sustained number of teams participating in the TNM Super League. He has also fostered positive relationships with coaches, referees, and all Football Association of Malawi (FAM) affiliates in the Northern region. This collaborative spirit, if extended to the national level, has the potential to significantly boost football development in the country.

Dr. Khonje’s success in regional leadership demonstrates that his strategies, when applied at the national level, can lead to substantial advancements in Malawian football. His candidacy represents an opportunity to advise the FAM president on uniting affiliates and rallying all football enthusiasts to contribute to the development of the beautiful game in Malawi.
