President Dr Lazarus Chakwera has applauded the Malawi Women Football team, the Scorchers, for their determination and hardworking spirit which resulted into bringing home the Hollywoobets COSAFA Champions Cup.
Speaking today at Kamuzu Palace where he hosted the Scorchers to a luncheon, Dr Chakwera said each player will be given K1.5 million and a 35× 25m plot in the capital city’s area 45 as a token of appreciation which has also been extended to the team’s technical panel.
President Chakwera commended the players for their unity, consistency and hard work, saying the qualities they portrayed are the very same quality Malawi as a nation neeeds to achieve the Malawi 2063 agenda.
The Malawi leader has also thanked Goshen city and Prophet Shepherd Bushiri for their unwavering support to the Scorchers during the time they needed much support.
President Chakwera has however appealed to the people in the corporate world to keep on investing in the Scorchers.
Minister of Sport, Uchizi Mkandawire has pledged support to the women’s football team saying it is one way of supporting and promoting gender equality and women empowerment.
Mkandawire also said this outstanding achievement
has displayed maturity and determination to the winning team.
Walter Nyamulandu, Football Association of Malawi (FAM) President also commended president Chakwera for recognizing the teams victory by hosting the Scorchers at Kumuzu Palace.
Each player has also pocketed K4 million kwacha from FAM.
