Minister of Health, Khumbize Kandodo Chiponda, has directed Salima Sugar Company to stop its operations for 21 days, effective yesterday.

This comes as the company has registered more numbers of Covid-19 cases.

Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Health, Charles Mwansambo, has confirmed the development.

“The Minister of Health directed the company to stop its operations for 21 days yesterday and that the positives be put in isolation, the contacts in quarantine and the premises fumigated,” Mwansambo said.

Yesterday, Malawi has registered 24 new Covid-19 cases, 54 new recoveries and one new death.

Of the new cases, 22 are locally transmitted; from Salima and one from Blantyre district while one new case is imported and is a Mozambican heading to Blantyre through Mwanza border.
