FUEL PRICES MAINTAINED, SUFFICIENT STOCKS AVAILABLE

The Malawi Energy Regulatory Authority (MERA) says prices of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), Petrol, Diesel and Paraffin have not been revised and that there are adequate fuel stocks in the country.

The energy regulatory body says, “Following an assessment of the effect of the movement of Free-On-Board prices, the exchange rate of Malawi Kwacha against major trading currencies and changes in local factors, the MERA Board has resolved to maintain prices of LPG, Petrol, Diesel
and Paraffin as established in October 2021,” reads the statement in part.

According to the statement signed by MERA’s Board Chairperson, Leonard Chikadya, the prices have been maintained as follows:

Petrol is still selling at K1,150 per litre, Diesel is going at K1,120 per litre, equally, there’s no change in kerosene (paraffin) pump price as it is still selling at K833.20 and finally Liquefied Petroleum Gas is still pegged at the same price of K2,175 per kg.

The Authority assures members of the public that the country’s major importers have in place financial instruments to ensure fuel supplies continue to roll in to meet national requirements and demand.

MERA thus appeals for an end to unnecessary speculation which could cause anxiety and panic buying.
