Facebook services faces a six hours outage, business compromised

Facebook’s apps and services – including Instagram and WhatsApp – are back online six hours after an outage.

The platforms crashed earlier on Monday, with users unable to send or receive messages or refresh their news feeds.

Facebook said: “To all the people and businesses around the world who depend on us, we are sorry for the inconvenience caused by today’s outage across our platforms.

“We’ve been working as hard as we can to restore access, and our systems are now back up and running.

“The underlying cause of this outage also impacted many of the internal tools and systems we use in our day-to-day operations, complicating our attempts to quickly diagnose and resolve the problem.

Several Facebook employees who declined to be named had told our reporters earlier that they believed that the outage was caused by an internal mistake in how internet traffic is routed to its systems.

Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp down for less than 24 hours and this is what has happened:

  1. Facebook shares down 4.9%.
  2. Mark Zuckerberg loses over $5.9 billion in net worth.
  3. Twitter records highest number of users on its platform at one time.
  4. Telegram triples active users for a record breaking.
