SEVEN YEARS IHL FOR DEFILEMENT AT JENDA
The Mzimba First Grade Magistrate’s Court has convicted and sentenced Peter Story Chipeta, 28, to seven years Imprisonment with Hard Labour (IHL) for defiling a 15-year- old girl.

Jenda Police Station Publicist said a circuit court sitting at Champhira heard through State Prosecutor, Sub Inspector Gloria Nambala that on 4th June 2021, the survivor fell in love with Chipeta who promised her marriage and had carnal knowledge of her.
The issue did not go well with the survivor’s parents and they reported the matter at Emfeni Police Unit and the survivor was referred to Mkoma Health Centre where it was confirmed that she was defiled and was pregnant.
First Grade Magistrate Loyness Gumbo having listened to both parties in the case concurred with the State and sentenced the convict to seven years IHL.
Chipeta hails from Kapinya Village in the area of Traditional Authority Kaluluma in Kasungu District.
ELDERLY MAN HANGS HIMSELF IN MZIMBA
A man identified as Gentry Ngulube has hanged himself in Chinyera, Mzimba District.
Police say the incident happened on July 15, 2021.
Mzimba Deputy Publicist, Sub Inspector John Nyirongo said reports show that Nguluwe phoned his son who is in the Republic of South Africa that he was tired of living, hence he was going to commit suicide
Upon receipt of the phone call, the son phoned relatives in his village about the development. The village headman organised a search party and found Nguluwe lifeless hanging under the tree.
Police from Kafukule informed medical personnel who conducted the postmortem and results showed that the death was due to suffocation.
Police in Mzimba are pleading with the public to seek lawful remedies at nearby Victim Support Units when they face challenges rather than committing suicide.
MAN ARRESTED FOR SMUGGLING 60 BAGS OF CHARCOAL
Police in Dowa have arrested a 39-year-old driver on suspicion that he smuggled 60 bags of charcoal.
The suspect, Nickison Jesnam, was arrested in the wee hours of Thursday, July 15 2021 at Dowa Trading Centre.
The facts about the case are that; the Officer-In-charge for Dowa Police Station Deputy Commissioner, Rhoda Manjolo, was monitoring officers who were on night duty.
Sub Inspector Gladson M’bumpha, Publicist for Dowa Police Station said as the OC was talking to the officers, she came across a motor vehicle Toyota Dyna registration number DA 9457 two tonner lorry and upon checking it, she discovered that it was carrying 60 bags of charcoal, leading to the arrest of the suspect.
Meanwhile, the motor vehicle and the charcoal have been seized. The suspect will appear before court soon to answer a charge of trafficking in forest produce without a permit.
The suspect, Nickison Jesnam, comes from Lungani Village in the area of Traditional Authority Chiwere in Dowa District.
