President Dr Lazarus Chakwera has said Malawi is not a dumping site for it to use the expired AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine.
Chakwera said this in an interview on Thursday night with CNN in its ‘One Word’ program.
CNN’s award winning host Zain Aisha quizzed Chakwera on why he has opted to destroy the expired vaccine despite World Health Organization (WHO) recommending that it can still be used.
The Malawi leader responded “We are not a dumping site, we need to protect our people and above all there are alot of countries across the world who have gone against WHO’s decisions,” Said Chakwera.
President Lazarus Chakwera has since spelled out the World Health Organisation’s (WHO) stance on the use of expired #COVID19 vaccines.
Last month, Malawi destroyed about 16,000 doses of expired AstraZeneca vaccines.
This was despite the WHO’s assurance that expired jabs are still safe to use and should not be destroyed.
On corruption the Malawi leader said his government is not only targeting on arresting those that plundered Covid-19 funds but every other sector as he is geared in looting out the phenomenon.
Asher also penned Chakwera on why he has chosen to evict refugees from the communities.
In his response Chakwera said he is only following what the laws are recommends on Refugees.
Chakwera said refugees must comply with the laws of Malawi and not in any way abuse them to their benefit. He said, the only wrong thing about Refugees is to think Malawi will treat them outside the law.
