As political violence continues to show its ugly face ahead of the March 30 by-elections in Nsanje central, the electorates have expressed dismay over Nsanje police’s delay to take actions against the perpetrators of violence in the area.
The accusation is coming as six Malawi Congress party supporters have been seriously hacked by people believed to be DPP cadets on Sunday evening at Tengani station.
This is the second case to be recorded so far in Nsanje central constituency since the launch of the campaign period by the Malawi Electoral Commission, but none has been arrested on the matter despite the law enforcers have always been alerted on the same.
According Malawi Congress party Shadow member of parliament in the MCP, Kafandikhale Mandevana, out of the six injured supporters, Madan Master aged 35, Davison Meke, 50, Mustafa Hussein and Charles James who works for Chinese construction company at Tengani Community College construction have been admitted to Nsanje district hospital.
As we went to press, Nsanje police is yet to respond to accusation leveled against them.
During a campaign rally held at Ndiola Primary School in the area of Senior Chief Tengani on Saturday, Member of Parliament for Chikwawa Nkombedzi who is also Deputy Minister of Lands, Abida Mia, had implored the security agents to arrest all perpetrators of political violence in the area saying any form of impunity will not be condoned.
The March 30 by-election remains one of the highly contested polls with stiff competition expected to be between Kafandikhale Mandevana of Malawi Congress party and Francis Kasaila of the Democratic Progressive party.
