President Lazarus Chakwera is addressing the nation from Kamuzu Palace, Lilongwe. He is giving some major highlights of the Covid-19 pandemic response. Chakwera says every suspected infenction must be reported to health officials in order to save lives. He says 161 people have died in the past week.
The President has paid tribute to legendary musician Wambali Mkandawire who died earllier today, describing him as “dear friend and devout supporter to cause of transformation who was also a national icon.”

He says there is also need for people to get tested and consult health officials for them to intervene as it is supposed to be.
The new COVID19 Variant, which has hit South Africa is now in Malawi.
President Lazarus Chakwera has confirmed the development during his national address this evening. He adds that local scientists at the Malawi Liverpool Welcome Trust, have managed to sequence the virus, hence cutting dependence on SA labs for the same.
President Lazarus Chakwera says government has secured doses of AstraZeneca vaccine in the fight against Covid19.
He says the first consignment will arrive in the country at the end of the month of February and the roll out will be done in March.
He says there is need to conduct awareness campaigns in a bid to persuade people sharing conspiracy theories and ‘lies’ about vaccines.
