Two Malawians netted for aiding entry of illegal immigrants

Police in Karonga have arrested two Malawians for allegedly aiding eight Congolese nationals to enter into Malawi illegally on 24 December, 2020.

The two have been identified as Michael Nyirenda, 31, of Chawola Village in the area of Traditional Authority Chulu in Kasungu, and Alfred Banda, 41, of Sumbi Village in the area of Traditional Authority Mazengera in Lilongwe.

The two Malawians together with the Congolese nationals were travelling in an Interline bus registration number NA 4838. When the bus reached at Matema police roadblock, it was searched by police officers and found that there were eight Congolese nationals who failed to produce proper travelling documents.

The Congolese nationals have been charged with the offence of illegal entry while the two Malawians have been charged with the offence of aiding and abetting illegal immigrants.

All will appear before the court of law soon.
