Songwe Border United FC have stretched their lead at the summit of the NBS Bank National Division League to six points after cruising to a commanding 3–0 victory over Ntaja United FC at Karonga Stadium on Saturday, 19 September 2026.
The home side wasted little time making their intentions clear, with Shaban Thomas breaking the deadlock just three minutes into the contest. Dickson Mwangonde then doubled the advantage on the stroke of half-time, sending Songwe into the break with a comfortable 2–0 cushion. Happy Mthuzi put the result beyond doubt in the 72nd minute, putting the finishing touch to a dominant home display.
Songwe Border United coach praised his charges for a disciplined performance and the maximum points, while confidently declaring that the team is targeting promotion to the elite league. He also called on the club’s supporters to continue rallying behind the team as the promotion race gathers momentum.
For Ntaja United, coach Chimanga Kayira felt the scoreline did not accurately reflect his team’s overall performance. He argued that his charges competed well and at times controlled proceedings, but failed to create enough clear-cut opportunities, while individual errors proved costly.
Kayira attributed some of the mistakes to the inexperience within his squad and revealed that the club is looking to strengthen the team before the transfer window closes, particularly in key areas of the pitch.
The victory takes Songwe Border United FC to 31 points from 13 matches, opening a six-point gap at the top of the NBS Bank National Division League table. Ntaja United remain eighth with 16 points from 13 games.
