The K3.5 million Kettie Nyalongwe Trophy concluded in dramatic fashion on Sunday, 21 December 2025, with Nkholongo Stars emerging as the 2025 champions after a hard-fought final at Khamba Ground.
Nkholongo Stars delivered when it mattered most, overcoming a resilient Ng’ongo FC 2–1 in a captivating contest to claim the coveted title and crown a memorable tournament run.
Excitement was not limited to men’s football, as other disciplines also produced impressive displays. In netball, Lupaso Queens were in complete control, cruising to a dominant 36–12 victory over Beforward Sisters. In girls’ football, Madodi FC showcased their attacking prowess with a commanding 5–0 win against Gimtec FC.

As champions of the men’s competition, Nkholongo Stars were rewarded with K600,000 and gold medals, while runners-up Ng’ongo FC received K300,000 and silver medals. Netball champions Lupaso Queens collected K150,000 and medals, with Beforward Sisters taking home K100,000 and medals. In girls’ football, Madodi FC earned K150,000 and medals, while Gimtec FC settled for K100,000 and medals.
Addressing the media after the finals, tournament sponsor Gift Mkandawire, who also serves as patron of Mzuzu City Hammers, expressed satisfaction with the tournament’s impact, describing it as a key platform for discovering and nurturing young talent. He further noted that the competition plays a significant role in promoting discipline, positive youth behaviour, and social values, praising participants for their exemplary conduct.

Organising Committee Chairperson Chimwemwe Ngwira said the tournament is held in honour of the late Kettie Nyalongwe, the mother of Gift Mkandawire, and highlighted that the initiative remains instrumental in identifying hidden talent within the community.
The colourful ceremony was officiated by Guest of Honour, former Flames football legend Lawrence Waya, whose presence added prestige to a memorable sporting finale.
