The Lilongwe First Grade Magistrate’s ( FGM) Court has convicted and sentenced two men, Lenard Makowa,27 and Mahala Msomela 39 to spend 120 months in jail for Burglary offence the two committed in August 2024 within Area 38, Kaphiri.
The court heard through state prosecutor Sergeant Innocent Dzatopesa from Kawale Police Station that during the night of August 26-27 , last year the two convicts broke into three houses within the same compound.
According to investigations by Station’s detectives, the two got arrested and further reverence was made that during the stated night they invaded into 3 houses in Area 38, Kaphiri and went away with assorted house hold items that includes 3 plasma screens, speakers and clothes.
Appearing in Court, the two pleaded not guilty to the charges leveled against them which prompted the state to parade 4 witnesses who testified against them. They however, prayed for court’s leniency when passing judgement.
During submission, Sergeant Innocent Dzatopesa prayed for stiffer sentences of not less than 96 months in jail for the offence citing that the two organized case well, and the format brings fear to the community.
Passing Judgements, his worship Amran Phiri, quashed their mitigations and sentenced them to 10 years imprisonment with hard labor each.
Mahala Msomela hails from Chigumula Village, Traditional Authority Machinjiri in Blantyre District while Lenard Makowa comes from Mwili Village, Traditional Authority Chauma in Dedza
