The Lilongwe Senior Resident Magistrate’s ( SRM) Court has convicted and sentenced a 20-year-old man, Marko Headboard to spend 96 months in jail for robbery contradicting section 301(2) of the Penal Code while still on the state’s registers for murder and two other robbery charges.
The court heard through state prosecutor Inspector Annes Chimenya from Kawale Police Station that during the night of July 27- 28 ,this year, the convict and his accomplice had an ambush where they attacked unsuspected passers-by in Area 24 before robbing them their belongings.
According to investigations by Area 24 detectives it is on record that during this night they attacked 2 victims consecutively in a similar fashion, by hitting the victims on the back of the head and in the process killed one. Further reports indicate that he was recently released after serving a jail term for robbery.
Dumisani Kamanga, a robbery victim reported the case in which his belongings were robbed including his cell phone.
Area 24 Police Unit detectives conducted investigations and swiftly arrested Headboard during the wee hours of August 3, 2025 after committing another robbery case
Appearing in Court, he pleaded guilty to the charge leveled against him but prayed for court’s leniency.
During submission, Inspector Annes Chimenya Prayed for a stiff custodial sentence citing that this was well organized case, a threat to the community, and that the convict benefited from the crime proceeds.
Passing Judgement his worship Shukrani Kumbani quashed him and sentenced him to 8 years imprisonment with hard labor.
Meanwhile, the convict is answering 2 other robbery charges and murder case all committed during the same night
