USI Lead Malawians Celebrating 25 Years of Human Rights

Mangochi Stadium hosted a significant event on Tuesday as Malawi commemorated the 2024 International Human Rights Day and marked 25 years of the Malawi Human Rights Commission’s (MHRC) efforts in promoting human rights.

Vice President Dr. Michael Usi highlighted the nation’s progress in upholding human rights and called for continued support for defenders of justice and equality. “This day reminds us of the progress made and the challenges that remain,” he stated, urging Malawians to respect the efforts of human rights advocates globally.

United Nations Resident Coordinator, Ms. Rebecca Addah-Dontoh, praised Malawi’s strides in protecting human rights, particularly in addressing gender-based violence and improving socio-economic conditions.

The event, celebrated under the theme “Our Right, Our Future, Right Now,” underscored the importance of sustaining efforts to uphold human dignity and justice for all.
