Mangochi Police Women support patients at Mangochi District Hospital

In a bid to alleviate the challenges faced by patients, the Mangochi Police Women Network on Friday, August 9, 2024, donated assorted items worth K400,000 to 20 patients in the TB and Malnutrition Wards at Mangochi District Hospital.

Led by its Chairperson, Inspector Susan Musongole, the group collected funds from its members to purchase the items. Each patient received 2 kg of maize flour, 2 kg of sugar, 1 kg of salt, 1 kg of rice, ½ litre of cooking oil, six bars of soap, five packets of soya pieces, 1 litre of juice, and a 250g bottle of peanut butter.

Speaking during the donation, Musongole emphasized that the gesture was part of their commitment to giving back to the community. She stated, “Our duty is not only to enforce the law but also to practice humanity. That’s why we are here to interact with you today. We understand the challenges you are facing, and giving something to someone doesn’t require having more, but the little we have can make a difference and bring smiles to your faces.”

The hospital’s Patron, McDonald Gondwe, expressed gratitude for the timely assistance, noting that the donation would ease some of the burdens and bring comfort to the patients.

One of the guardians, Aisha John, said the support had come at the right time. “We need food to care for our patients effectively, as we cannot leave them to search for food,” John said.

She also called on women from various professions to emulate what the female law enforcers had done.

In addition to the hospital visit, the group also visited one of their own, Detective Sub Inspector Jack Mboga, who has been ill for some time.

The Police Women Network is a group of female officers dedicated to promoting gender equality and a strong work ethic.
