Man Commits Suicide Over Family Wrangles

A 74-year-old man identified as Issah Enock has taken his own life by hanging himself with a rope from the roof of his late mother’s house due to family misunderstandings.

The incident occurred on June 7, 2024, at Faki village, Traditional Authority Bwananyambi in Mangochi.

It is reported that Enock (now deceased) was occupying his late mother’s house, a situation which his siblings opposed, leading to long-standing conflicts.

On the day of the incident, he quarreled with his 15-year-old nephew over the house issue, prompting a fight during which the nephew sustained severe body pains.

Other relatives took the boy to Mulibwanji Mission Hospital for treatment, where he was treated as an outpatient. However, upon their return a few hours later, they made the shocking discovery of Enock hanging lifeless from his bedroom’s roof.

The matter was reported at Masuku Police Unit, who visited the scene and took his body to Mkumba Health Centre for examination. Postmortem results indicated that Enock died from strangulation.

Police are appealing to the public to refrain from taking their own lives when facing challenges. Instead, they should seek counseling or share their issues with colleagues.

Enock hailed from Faki village, Traditional Authority Bwananyambi in Mangochi.
