Police in Lilongwe have arrested Alick Akimu, aged 56, and Rebson Makumba, aged 42, for allegedly dealing in elephant ivory.
According to Lilongwe Police spokesperson Hastings Chigalu, the police received a tip-off from concerned citizens about the two individuals selling ivory at the Six Miles market in the city.
Following the tip-off, the police conducted a raid and apprehended the suspects along with four pieces of elephant ivory.
In a related incident, police in Chinsapo arrested Gevinala Makanda for allegedly trafficking a Pangolin, a protected species, for its scales.
Currently, all suspects are awaiting trial.
