Malawi Police Service (MPS) arrested two individuals and successfully retrieved all the stolen presidential items from a Ministry of Transport and Public Works vehicle.
The incident occurred during an attack at Laundi Village along the Zalewa-Mwanza M6 Road while the vehicle was en route to Mwanza District for official duties.

The stolen items, a tent, and a carpet, were en route to Mwanza in preparation for President Lazarus Chakwera’s upcoming function. National Police Spokesperson Senior Superintendent Peter Kalaya identified the suspects as Lino Richard and Jonasi Harlod, both aged 20 and from Laundi Village, Traditional Authority Kanduku in Mwanza.
Kalaya confirmed that both the suspects and the recovered items are currently in custody at Mwanza Police Station.
The incident has caused a stir, particularly among disgruntled citizens in Blantyre, who are now discussing the matter following media reports about the theft.
