“Match-Fixing Clash: FAM vs. CRFA Tension”

The Football Association of Malawi (FAM) and the Central Region Football Association (CRFA) are set for a clash over match-fixing allegations in the CRFA league. FAM, led by CEO Alfred Gunda, has directed the fixture between Kawinga FC and St. Gabriel Zitha FC to be played on Sunday, January 28, 2024, at either Nankhaka Stadium or Civo Stadium in Lilongwe. Gunda requested information on the match’s organization by January 25 and urged CRFA to provide results and details by January 26, including those of other teams.

In response, CRFA Chairperson Austin Biton Ajawa emphasized that seeking FAM’s assistance was a mistake, asserting the match cannot proceed until the case is addressed. Ajawa highlighted the importance of upholding fair play and league integrity, stating that CRFA has its own committee dedicated to handling such issues. He requested FAM’s understanding and cooperation, emphasizing CRFA’s commitment to a transparent resolution.

This situation reflects the tension between FAM’s intervention and CRFA’s desire for autonomy in handling the alleged match-fixing case.
