POLICE SEIZE 20 MOTORCYCLES AT JENDA

Law enforcers at Jenda in Mzimba district have seized 20 motorcycles in a serious crackdown dubbed ‘Gwira Njinga’ operation aimed at arresting careless breach of traffic rules and regulations.

They warn to continue pouncing on such errant road users until they begin following traffic rules.

Jenda Police spokesperson Macfallen Mseteka says the operation targets motorcycle riders not wearing helmets, over-speeding, and carrying more than one passenger.

“We are urging all road users to take road safety seriously and follow the rules to prevent accidents.

“We are still emphasising that road safety is everyone’s responsibility. By working together, the number of accidents will be reduced in the country,” stresses Mseteka.

He adds they will only let go the motorcycles after the owners pay a fine and show commitment to follow traffic rules.

Statistics show that motorcycles killed 1 738 people and injured 1 868 others between 2019 and 2022.
