Nsanje Court Imposes K1 Million Fine on Two Men for Fuel Transport Without Permits

In a court ruling today, two individuals, Bashiri Mahommed (aged 38) and Hammad Salema (aged 36), were fined K1 million each for transporting fuel in containers without the required permits and licenses.

First Grade Magistrate Watson Mankhanamba ordered the fines, amounting to K200,000 for each count.

State Prosecutor Victor Nyachuma had initially requested the seizure of a Nissan Vanette with registration number BY 5470, which was used to transport 1000 liters of petrol purchased by the convicts at Tengani Fuelling Station on September 2, 2022.

However, Magistrate Mankhanamba decided to release the vehicle, taking into account that the individuals were first-time offenders. Nevertheless, the court ruled that the confiscated fuel should be distributed among Nsanje District Hospital, Nsanje Prison, Nsanje Police, and Nsanje Malawi Defence Force (MDF).
