Blantyre City Deputy Mayor, Balaba Kanonjerera, has extended a commendable gesture towards Ntopwa Women’s Football Club by providing a substantial sum of MK250,000 in a bid to bolster Malawi’s football efforts. The financial aid was officially handed over to the team’s Chief Executive Officer, Jomo Osman, who expressed gratitude to the fellow councillor for the timely support. This contribution arrives as the team gears up for a significant journey to Durban, South Africa.
Speaking about the significance of such support, Cllr Balaba emphasized the importance of fostering Malawi’s football prowess. He highlighted the need for collective action among Malawians to invest in sporting activities, emphasizing that the Blantyre City Assembly is committed to allocating resources to various games.
Ntopwa United seized the opportunity and departed for Durban on Saturday, August 26th. Their destination is the Confederation Of African Women’s Champions League matches. The team is poised to showcase their skills and determination on an international platform, representing not only themselves but also the city of Blantyre and the nation as a whole. The matches are slated to kick off between 30th August and 8th September 2023. The development comes in marking a significant moment for women’s football in Malawi and beyond.
Mtopwa Ladies will battle it out against Green Buffaloes, Double Action Ladies and Lesotho Defence Force.
