Government Urged to Deliver on Stadium Promise for Football Clubs in Blantyre City South

The Member of Parliament for Blantyre City South, Noel Lipipa, is putting pressure on the government to uphold its commitment to construct two stadiums for FCB Nyasa Big Bullets and Mighty Mukuru Wanderers within his constituency.

During a recent session in the parliamentary house, Lipipa reminded government officials that there has been little to no progress on the construction of these two stadiums. Although construction work commenced some time ago, it abruptly halted and has not resumed since.

In a similar context, back in April during the 49th parliamentary session, Lipipa fervently advocated for the construction of these stadiums. In response, the government pledged MK 500 million to each team to support the construction efforts.

However, Minister of Transport and Public Works, Jacob Hara, has since revealed that the government intends to allocate MK 800 million, to be evenly divided between the two teams. Regrettably, this amount falls MK 400 million short of the initial commitment.

The funds allocated are slated to settle outstanding payments owed to contractors before the construction work can recommence.

Lipipa underscored the significance of these stadium developments, not only to elevate the national sports scene but also to bestow substantial benefits upon his constituency in terms of sports advancement and community growth.

These stadiums are strategically planned for construction in the vibrant Zingwangwa and Kanjedza townships. As this matter unfolds, the anticipation builds to see if the government will indeed deliver on its promise and provide a sporting boost to Blantyre City South.
