Man arrested for impersonating a police officer and soliciting bribes

Police in Kawale have apprehended a 50-year-old man, Akimu Kalembuka, for posing as a police officer and demanding money from a local businessman in exchange for a favorable outcome in a case he was allegedly involved in.

The victim became suspicious and contacted the authorities, leading to a secret investigation that uncovered the truth.

Kalembuka initially claimed that he needed the money to bail out a relative, but this was later discovered to be a lie.

Kalembuka hails from Benesi Village Traditional Authority Mabuka in Mulanje District.

He will appear in court soon to answer charges levelled against him.

Police at Kawale are warning the public to verify the identity of anyone claiming to be a police officer and also avoid sending money to such fraudsters.
