As social media is awash with issues of fuel crisis in the capital Lilongwe and other parts of the country, NOCMA assured Malawians on availability of their commodity on the market refuting the allegations.
Most pumps in the capital city of Malawi are depleted and the scenario is extended to Mzuzu City. But NOCMA has never issued a statement on the causes of the fuel drought only responded to its availability in stock to reduce the panic in its customers.
Fuel shortages in the country have been a trend, Malawians have suffered since the past months despite tremendous increase in fuel prices with an average of 150 percent in two years.
Today vehicles are seen empty packed in various homes, bus terminals as well as depots since their owners are failing to purchase the scarce commodity trading like gold.

However, the Malawi Energy Regularatory Authority (MERA) and National Oil Company of Malawi (NOCMA) officials assured Malawians through a press briefing in Lilongwe on the fuel situation in the country.
Henry Kachaje MERA’s Chief Executive Officer says fuel run out quicker in Lilongwe following some activities that took place during the weekend.
He says, during the weekend there was a football match and an international artist in the country and this contributed to social movements and increased demand for fuel.
He however, says this is just one of the reasons. Kachaje has assured Malawians that there is fuel in the country and that people shouldn’t panic.
He says, they will ensure that the product is available.
