There is expectation amongst residents of Likoma Island as they will have their District Commissioner permanently residing on the island following the construction of a DC’s house.
For years Likoma District Commissioners have been occupying rented houses a development that has been forcing most of them to be commuting from the mainland.
Speaking on behalf of the DC Eric Nema, procurement officer Jaffar Mustafa, told community representatives that lack of the DC’s house in the district negatively affected effective operations of the DC whose family was still in the mainland.
The house has been constructed using District Development Funds (DDF) and is valued at K50million.
