As one way of mitigating robbery cases, theft of motorcycles and road accidents involving kabaza operators in Lumbadzi, Police through the office of Community Policing in the area has urged motorcycle and bicycle operators to consider safety and security measures as a priority when operating their business.
The call was made on Friday, July 22, 2022 during the sensitization campaign dubbed ‘Kabanza take care’ which the station conducted.
Speaking during the function, Sub Inspector Jennifer Kaunda advised the taxi operators to be responsible enough in safeguarding their own lives and that of their customers as police on the other hand do their part.
Kaunda also highlighted on the need to observe time when operating business especially during night hours. She also asked them to refrain from being used by criminals.
Furthermore, the taxi operators have been encouraged to register and keep motorcycle chasis numbers as this helps the police to trace the owner in case of theft of motorcycles.
In addition, Kaunda bemoaned the tendancy by some kabaza operators of drink and drive, not putting on crush helmets, carrying more than one pillion passenger at a time, overspeeding and unnecessary overtaking as some of the major contributing factors of road accidents.
Speaking on behalf of other Kabanza operators in Lumbadzi, Justice Cosmas Chairman for Depot /Matabwa rank hailed Police for their tireless sensitization campaigns they have been conducting. He further urged them to make more campaigns in order to make Lumbadzi a road accident free zone as the area is prone to road accidents.
