Soldier Lucius Banda Laid to Rest

The body of Soldier Lucius Banda was laid to rest today, Thursday, in his home village of Sosola, Traditional Authority Nsamala in Balaka district.

A large crowd from all parts of the country, led by the president of Malawi, Dr. Lazarus Chakwera, gathered at Balaka Stadium to pay their respects to soldier Lucius Chicco Banda who until his death touched many lives through his music as he was a mouth piece of less privileged in Malawi.

Until his death, Banda was an advisor to the President on youth and arts issues and a prominent figure in the UTM party.

Speaking on behalf of the President, the Minister of Local Government, Unity, and Culture, Honorable Richard Chimwendo Banda, said the late Banda was a trustworthy citizen who was friendly to everyone, regardless of their wealth, which is why the President trusted him as an advisor.

He assured the family that the government would support them and assist in various matters concerning the family.

In her remarks, UTM Secretary General Patricia Kaliati thanked the President for his assistance to the late Lucius Banda during his time in the hospital in South Africa

Speaking on behalf of the family, Eliyasi Kamoto also thanked Chakwera for his support during Banda’s illness and requested the President to look after Banda’s elder brother, Paul Banda, who is suffering from the same illness that claimed Lucius’s life.

Lucius Banda’s eldest son, Johnny, said his father was a pillar of their family who never wanted to be feared as a parent.

Lucius Banda passed away on Sunday in South Africa, where he was receiving medical treatment.

Born in 1970, he is survived by his wife and three children.
