It has been confirmed that Malawi Parliament has today, Thursday, July 28, 2022, passed the Corrupt Practices Act Amendment Bill.
The Bill was presented in Parliament by Hon. Ashems Songwe, MCP Member of Parliament for Likoma and it was fully supported by Hon. Peter Dimba MCP Member of Parliament for Lilongwe South and Hon. Ben Phiri DPP Member of Parliament for Thyolo, among others.
The bill is seeking to amend that the Anti-Corruption Bureau must have prosecution mandate of corruption cases, unlike previously where it required an approval from Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) before prosecuting corruption cases.
For the passed bill to be functional it will pend the Stste President, His Excellency Dr Lazarus MacCathy Chakwera to assent it.
Beside the bill passed positively, it was tabled in the absence of 91 members of Parliament out of the 193 registered figure.
