The Lilongwe Senior Resident Magistrate’s Court has sentenced a 43-year-old man identified as Clifford Natiele to 20 years in prison for having sexual intercourse with a 5- year-old girl in Kawale.
During the Court proceedings, the state prosecutor from Kawale Police Station, Inspector Annes Chimenya , explained that on March 30, 2025, Natiele had carnal knowledge with a 5-year-old girl which contradicts Section 138 of the Penal Code.
Inspector Annes Chimenya explained in Court that the victim stays with her mother at Kawale 1 opposite glitters and that the convict was working as a watch man at a carpentry shop which is close to the house.
Further the Court was told that on this fateful day Clifford Natiele gave the victim cooked maize to hook the girl while her mother was engaged with house hold chores.The convict enticed the innocent girl into the shop where he defiled her.
After the ordeal, the girl denied food and this prompted the mother to find out only to discover that the girl has been defiled as confessed by the girl.
Arraigned in Court Clifford Natiele pleaded not guilty to the charge which prompted the state to parade four witnesses who testified against him.
In mitigation , Natiele asked the court’s leniency when passing sentence.
However, prosecutor Inspector Annes Chimenya asked for stiffer punishment saying that such cases are on the rise in Kawale.
Senior Resident Magistrate Blacious Kondowe agreed with the prosecution’s submissions and sentenced him to 20 years IHL .
Clifford Natiele hails from Tambala village in the area of Traditional Authority Mazengela in Lilongwe district.
