Kawale Traffic Police impound 26 motor vehicles for breaching road traffic rules

Kawale Traffic Police on January 17, 2026 conducted an operation aimed at stumping out unroadworthy motor vehicles in its road networks.

The influx of unroadworthy motor vehicles and non-licence holders drivers not only breaches the traffic regulations but also creates an environment suitable for accidents exposing other road users to danger.

In view of this the Station’s Traffic branch continues it’s tireless efforts in tightening the grip so that such incidents are contained.

During today’s operation, traffic officers had to counter check road networks within Kawale that includes Chizanja, Chipasula, Biwi, Mchesi, Kamuzu institute, and area 23 where twenty six (26) vehicles have been impounded.

The 26 impounded motor vehicles have been detected with different traffic offences that range from exceeding seating capacity, driving without valid permits, worn out tyres and defective break lights, just to mention a few.

Assistant Supritendent Thom Maloni, the Station Traffic Officer (STO), led the team of traffic officers ensuring compliance and professional conduct.

The impounded vehicles are mostly used in conveyance of passengers for gain that include taxi and minibuses
