Kawale Police tips Kabaza operators on GBV and road safety

Police in Kawale courts Kabaza Operators on road safety and Gender Based Violence (GBV).

According to records through Community Policing and Traffic branches, it is established that Kabaza operators families are prone to unconditional divorces and early orphan hood.

The Community Policing report indicates that, due to nature of their business many riders are easily tempted forcing them to indulge in extra marital affairs which brings family break-ups rendering women and children helpless while on the other part the Traffic branch indicates that the Kabaza riders are exposed to fatal road accidents which claims their lives which brings orphan hood, attributed by breaching road traffic regulations.

From this background on December 3, 2025 the Station organized a meeting with Kabaza operators within Kawale to groom and remind them of their responsibility in their families, and the rightful usage of roads.

Inspector Dina Mauaboma from Victim Support Unit, informed the gathering on the trend of complaints against Kabaza operators from their wives on their unfaithful behavior and also isolated cases of raping unsuspected customers. She therefore urged them to desist from such.

“When you find money after your usual business, support your families other than being involved in extra marital affairs and abusing your spouses at home” Said Mauaboma.

On road safety, the Station Traffic Officer Assistant Supritendent Thom Maloni rendered his services through Traffic Sergeant Micheal Chaleka warned the riders to adhere traffic regulations, that includes wearing of crush helmets,observing carrying capacity and operating a roadworthy motorcycle which necessitate them to be registered at Road Traffic.

He further reminded the operators to take extra care more especially during the upcoming festive season, which registers increased occurrence of accidents affecting the operator’s.

Kabaza Operators President, Mr Moses Mwalabu echoed the sentiments of earlier speakers and further advised them to change for their own good.

As one way to appreciate the rate, impact caused by road accidents he revealed that they have organized a Hospital visit on December 22, this year to see their colleagues which will not only be a message of good will to the victims but also a lesson to them.

Speaking on behalf of other motorcycle riders Mr Justin Nkhoma expressed gratitude to Kawale Police for the meeting citing that its timely and helpful to them in business and homestead.
