Kawale Police denounce mob justice, two arrested

Police in Kawale strongly condemns acts of mob justice, this follows the murder of a criminal suspect in Area 23 that occurred in the wee hours of October 15, 2025.

Following this brutal murder, the police have arrested two brothers, identified as Lloyd Owen, 34 and Maxwell Lameck, 26 for allegedly being involved in the assault of the criminal suspect who is yet to be identified.

It is on record that during the night of October 14- 15, 2025 Mrs Joyce Owen was visited by un invited guest who wanted to steal from the house. Fortunately, she was awakened by strange noise and shouted for help which alerted the brothers to chase this strange man.

They managed to arrest the suspect with the help of other villagers who assaulted him to death and left him along the road in unconscious state.

Later, he was seen by a Kabaza rider who reported to Area 23 Police who visited the scene. They ferried the victim to Kamuzu Central Hospital where he died upon arrival.

Investigations by Area 23 detectives led to a swift arrest of the two in the comfort of their homes.

Meanwhile, police is calling for identification of the dead body for proper burial as investigations are underway to arrest more culprits involved

The two suspects are expected to appear in court soon after completion of paper work to answer murder charges.

They both hail from Chibade Village in the area of Traditional Authority Chikowi in Zomba district.
